Explosion At Texas Gas Plant Leaves One Dead

LA PORTE (February 10, 2013)--One person was killed and another was seriously injured a gas plant explosion Saturday in La Porte in southeast Texas.

One employee was flown to a hospital after the explosion Saturday morning and another worker was missing.

Crews later found a body after searching for about 12 hours, but couldn't confirm the victim's identity Saturday night.

The explosion happened at the Air Liquide plant, which describes itself on its website as "the world leader in gases for industry, health and the environment."

A spokeswoman said the facility houses a mix of industrial gases such as nitrogen and hydrogen that are used in the processing of food, beverages and electronics.

Authorities say air monitoring showed no dangerous substances were released as a result of the explosion.
