AUSTIN (February 21, 2014) The FBI will investigate a Bastrop County sheriff's deputy use of a stun gun on a high school student who suffered severe injuries.
FBI officials said the inquiry will look into whether the deputy who used the stun gun and a second deputy who was also at the scene used excessive force on Noe Nino de Rivera, 17, or whether they misused their power.
"The FBI has reviewed the material, and we are opening an official investigation,” FBI spokeswoman Michelle Lee said.
The teen hit his head on the floor he was shocked with the stun gun in November at Cedar Creek High School and spent almost two months in a medially induced coma.
The sheriff's office and the county's district attorney are also investigating.
