Family In Houston For Cancer Treatment Ripped Off

HOUSTON (October 4, 2012)--A Georgia family in Houston for treatment of their daughter's cancer woke up to find the tires and wheels gone from their car parked at a motel near the Texas Medical Center.

Erick and Laura Smith, from McRae, Ga., now are using a motel shuttle service to visit their daughter, Grace, who’s a patient at Houston's MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Laura Smith says she cried and was overwhelmed when she walked out of the motel Tuesday to find their car without wheels.

Her husband had spent the night with their daughter at the hospital.

The Smiths told Houston's KTRK-TV they filed a police report, have insurance and help from their church but the damage is about $5,000.

Their daughter, who turns 20 on Saturday, is receiving chemotherapy at the hospital.
