Fiery 7-Vehicle Crash Backs Up I-35 Traffic

(October 19, 2012)—Northbound traffic backed up on Interstate 35 Friday afternoon after a fiery seven-vehicle crash.

The accident happened early Friday afternoon in the area of the Wiggins Road exit between Waco and West.

One car was on fire under a highway bridge, but authorities said all of the occupants escaped safely

Firefighters from several area departments responded to the scene.

The car fire was extinguished, but the northbound lanes of the highway remained blocked in the area of the accident and by around 3:30 p.m. the backup extended about 12 miles.

A preliminary report indicated the chain-reaction crash occurred after an 18-wheeler ran out of fuel and the driver stopped.

There were no reports of injuries.
