ELGIN (July 30, 2012)--An adult and two children died Monday when the car in which they were riding slammed head-on into a minivan and burst into flames on a highway east of Austin.
The crash happened at around 10 a.m. Monday about 25 miles northeast of Austin on Texas Route 95, about five miles north of Elgin.
The car, a four-door Mazda, was traveling north when it crossed into the path of the oncoming Toyota minivan, slammed head-on into the vehicle and erupted in flames, Trooper Robbie Barerra of the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
The adult and two children in the car were burned beyond recognition, authorities said.
The crash left the woman and her three young daughters who were riding in the minivan injured.
The woman was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge and the children were taken to Dell Children's Hospital, both in Austin.
