GILLETT (October 8, 2013)--A fiery explosion early Tuesday at a South Texas oil well site left one man with burns and forced closure of a nearby highway as a precaution.
The Karnes County Sheriff's Office said the explosion occurred before dawn Tuesday in a rural area near Gillett about 50 miles southeast of San Antonio.
Authorities said batteries, salt water containers and diesel tanks exploded.
Authorities are trying to determine the cause.
A stretch of Highway 80 was shut down after the explosion, which was reported at around 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Sheriff Dwayne Villanueva says the fire died down after several hours, but emergency personnel continued to monitor the site.
The injured man was flown to a San Antonio hospital.
His name and further details weren't immediately released.
