WACO (September 12, 2013)—A fire broke out Thursday evening at the Owens-Illinois glass container plant in Waco.

The fire was reported at around 5 p.m. Thursday.

Multiple fire units were dispatched to the plant at 5200 Beverly Drive in Waco just after 5 p.m. Thursday.

The fire started in a boiler, which a fire official said was not an uncommon occurrence in glass plants.

The last such fire at the Waco plant was about two years ago, the official said.

By 5:30 p.m. the fire was contained and crews from four Waco fire units were dousing the last flames in the interior of the building.

No one was injured.

About 20 firefighters responded Thursday evening.

The plant employs more than 300 workers and is one of 19 the company operates in North America.
