Fire Causes $800K In Damage At Local Construction Plant

LORENA (January 19, 2014) Fire crews in Lorena had a busy afternoon dousing flames at Big Creek Construction Plant Sunday evening after 8 cement trucks there caught fire.

The fire began at around 4:30 p.m. according to the owner of Big Creek Construction John Miller.

Miller says the fire started inside one cement truck and then spread. The 8 cement trucks were all parked in close proximity to one another.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, however Miller believes an electrical short inside one of the trucks may be the cause.

Miller says an estimated $800,000 in damage was done. Each cement truck was valued on average at $100,000.

Big Creek Construction employs 381 people and has been in business in Central Texas since 1997.

Its annual revenues exceed 100 million according to Miller.

The company primarily does heavy contract work, paving roads for TxDot.

Miller says he had a fleet of 12 cement trucks, and after losing the 8, has already ordered 6 new ones.

He says business will carry on as usual come Monday.
