GROESBECK (August 16, 2013)—A fire that broke out in an elevator control room Friday morning forced a brief evacuation of the Limestone County Courthouse in Groesbeck and left an employee trapped in the elevator.

The fire broke out shortly after 10 a.m. Friday, trapping a deputy auditor in the elevator, which stopped between floors, County Judge Daniel Burkeen said.

She was able to call for help and as officials responded they smelled smoke, Burkeen said.

The traced the smoke to a fire in the elevator motor in the control room and called the fire department, he said.

The fire was quickly extinguished, the woman who was trapped in the elevator was able to crawl out after the doors were forced open, Burkeen said.

The elevator had just been renovated, he said.
