Firefighters from Waco, Valley Mills and China Spring battled the blaze in the 1000 block of Brazos Bluff Drive in the River Oak Estates subdivision.

The couple and their children were home when the fire started.

“We were in our house on Saturday night and smelled smoke and thankfully we were able to get our family out and everyone is safe,” Patricia Wilcox said Monday.

The fire destroyed a recent 2,000-square-foot addition to the sprawling two-story house.

“(We’re) working with our insurance company and trying to salvage the things that were left and thankful to God that some of the furniture may be able to be saved,” she said.

“We appreciate everybody's prayers and we felt the hand of God at work,” she said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
