COLLEGE STATION (July 21, 2012)—A man who woke up Saturday morning in the living room of his home was able to escape before fire engulfed the house, but was taken to a Central Texas hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The man, whose name wasn’t immediately released, was taken to St Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan.

The fire was reported shortly before 8 a.m. in the 800 block of Avenue B in College Station.

“When the first unit arrived on the scene, there were flames rolling out of the front of the structure almost all the way out to the street,” College Station Fire Department public information officer Bart Humphreys told KBTX-TV in Bryan.

A preliminary investigation indicates the fire may have started in the kitchen, but the cause has yet to be determined.

The fire gutted the house.
