REAGAN (March 21, 2011)-A century-old Baptist church in the small Falls County community of Reagan burned to the ground over the weekend and authorities were at the scene Monday looking for the cause of the fire.

Residents and former church members said services were held at the Fish Creek Missionary Baptist Church from the early 1900s to the mid-1990s.

Since then the building was used regularly for family and church reunions and other community events.

The wood frame building on Falls County Road 211 caught fire sometime around midnight Saturday night.

Firefighters from Marlin, Reagan and Rosebud responded, but the building was too far gone for them to save and it burned to the ground.

Former church members and neighbors say they believe the fire was the set deliberately because no utilities including electricity were hooked up to the building.

Investigators from the Falls County Sheriff's Office and the State Fire Marshal’s Office were at the scene on Monday, but did not comment about their investigation.
