NEW BRAUNFELS (August 29, 2013)--Firefighters using a ladder truck with a bucket were able to coax a teenage student to come down from a 125-foot light tower, ending a more than six-hour standoff in New Braunfels.
The incident ended at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday after emergency personnel persuaded the 16-year-old to ride down with them in the bucket, police said.
Police began negotiating with the boy after the teen climbed the light tower near an athletic field Wednesday afternoon following a dispute with a school staffer who spotted the student near Unicorn Stadium and asked what he was doing.
Capt. John McDonald says the boy was dehydrated, but not seriously hurt.
He was taken to a hospital for examination.
Temperatures were in the 90s Wednesday in New Braunfels.
