NOLANVILLE (March3, 2013) - Nolanville firefighters and police responded to a fire Sunday afternoon behind the Richard E Cavazos Elementary School.

Luckily wood chips under the playground's structure did not catch fire and emergency responders were able to contain the fire from spreading to other parts of the playground. No one was injured from the fire.

One of the playground's dark-green slides had become black and disfigured after the flames were put out. Portions of the round structure that held the slide had melted plastic drooping from all sides.

Police put up yellow caution tape and took photos at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The playground was purchased and installed four years ago, according to Joseph Gullekson, principal of Richard E Cavazos Elementary School.

After evaluating the damage, Gullekson said it could cost anywhere from $20,000 to $30,000 to repair the playground, at 1200 North 10th Street.
