Five Arrested In Gang-Related Shooting That Left Local Man Dead

KILLEEN (March 12, 2013)—Five men arrested in connection with a deadly gang-related shooting in July 2012 were in custody Tuesday, charged with engaging in organized criminal activity.

The five men were named in sealed indictments handed up by the Bell County Grand Jury.

Killeen police detectives and members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force made four arrests last Thursday; Fred Lee Williams II, 32 in Waco; Larry Donnel Boswell, Jr., in Temple; Kevin Lee Stafford, 31 in Lubbock, and Daniel Lee Carruth, 26 in Killeen.

The fifth man, Stephon Mitchell Lewis, 25, was arrested Tuesday in Benton Harbor, Mich.

He was held Tuesday in the Berrien County, Mich., Jail in lieu of $500,000 bonds.

Stafford was in the McLennan County Jail Tuesday and Boswell, Williams and Carruth were in the Bell County Jail.

Their bonds were also set at $500,000.

They’re charged in the shooting death of Ricky Dewayne Brandon, 29, of Waco, who was found dead on July 17, 2012, lying outside near the front porch of a home at 1404 East Avenue G in Killeen.

Officers found Brandon dead after responding to an early-morning report of gunfire.

Additional charges are expected in the case, police said Tuesday.
