Five Texas Utility Workers Suffer Serious Burns

HOUSTON (June 20, 2013)—Five CenterPoint Energy workers suffered significant electrical burns Thursday morning while working in the basement of a building in downtown Houston.

The Houston Fire Department said the workers hurt Thursday morning in the electrical vault incident at the Southwestern Bell building were taken to hospitals.

The five were doing routine maintenance in a vault that houses equipment to serve underground power lines that supply electricity to three buildings, which were left without power because of the accident.

The accident caused minor fire damage.

CenterPoint spokeswoman Alicia Dixon had no immediate details on names of the victims or extent of their injuries.

The cause is under investigation.
