Flap Over Background Checks Prompts Texas Gun Show To Move

AUSTIN (February 26, 2014) The monthly Saxet Gun Show will be held in late March at the Dripping Springs Ranch Park and Events Center in Hays County after organizers were prompted to move the show because of a dispute over background checks for purchases.

Officials in Dripping Springs, which owns the center, are not requiring additional background checks.

The monthly show used to be at the Travis County Exposition Center east of Austin, but organizers and Travis County officials did not sign a contract to continue to use the facility.

Federally licensed firearm sellers are already required to run criminal checks, but private sales by non-licensed dealers don't come with the requirement.

Travis County officials wanted to ensure the private sales were covered, too.
