Fleeing Texas Man Tries To Escape In School Bus With Students Aboard

PALESTINE (December 19, 2012)--Police are crediting several adults for stopping a fleeing man from driving away in school bus with about a dozen students on board.

Cedric Brenard Lewis was jailed Wednesday, charged with aggravated kidnapping, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, public intoxication, criminal mischief and resisting arrest.

His bond hadn’t been set Wednesday morning.

Police say Lewis caused a disturbance at some apartments and was being escorted out by a maintenance worker when he jumped into the bus and climbed into the driver’s seat.

Sgt. James Muniz said the driver, who'd been assisting a student, helped the maintenance worker and an off-duty corrections worker subdue Lewis.
