Former Local County Commissioner Found Dead In Hotel Room

GATESVILLE (July 1, 2013)--Former Coryell County Commissioner Kyle Pruitt was found dead Sunday morning in his hotel room in Louisiana.

While the cause of death had not been determined, police say there was no indication of foul play.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church of Gatesville.

Burial will follow at Weaver chapel Cemetery.

Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Pruitt, 64, was a rancher who served as Pct. 4 county commissioner from 1991 to 2006.

Family friends say Pruitt was expected to be at breakfast Sunday morning, but failed to show up.

When the friends got worried they went to his room, but could not get him to come to the door.

After management opened the room the friends found Pruitt collapsed on the floor.

Pruitt was a Gatesville native who graduated from Jonesboro High School and Tarleton State College.

He’s survived by his wife of 45 years, Joyce, three daughters, nine grandchildren and his mother.
