COPPERAS COVE (December 18, 2013) A former nurse at a Copperas Cove nursing home was sentenced to probation Wednesday after she pleaded guilty earlier to the theft of prescription drugs from some of her patients.
State District Judge Trent Farrell sentenced Kristi Ann Bass to 5 years of probation on one count of possession of prescription drugs.
Four other counts were set aside, said Coryell County District Attorney Dustin Boyd.
As part of the plea agreement Bass has to forfeit all nursing licenses and certifications, Boyd said.
Bass was arrested at around 3:30 a.m. on Aug 29, 2012, after Copperas Cove police found her passed out and slumped over the console of her car at gas station, Boyd said.
As police began investigating what they thought was a case of driving while intoxicated, they found a large quantity of several different types of prescription pain medications and other drugs in her car.
Boyd said the case was handed over to the Texas Attorney General's Medicare fraud section, which determined the nurse had been re-directing prescriptions intended for at least seven different patients to herself.
