HOUSTON (July 24, 2013)—Former President George H. W. Bush has shaved his head in support of a sick 2-year-old boy named Patrick who’s the son of a member of his Secret Service detail.

Other members of Bush’s protective detail shaved their heads this week to show support for the toddler, who was diagnosed this spring with leukemia and is losing his hair as a result of the treatments he’s now receiving.

“While his prognosis is very positive, there will be many years of treatment ahead,” the agents said on a website set up to help raise money to pay for medical treatment.

“We are doing what we can to show our support and lend a helping hand to this amazing family and worthy cause,” the agents said.

Bush decided to shave his head, too, after seeing the agents at his summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine.

He also made a donation to the fund established for the toddler's treatment.

George and Barbara Bush lost their second child, 4-year-old Robin Bush, to leukemia almost 60 years ago.
