Former Texas Bank Teller Charged In $108,000 Theft

SAN ANTONIO (February 7, 2013)—Former bank teller Pedro Godinez has returned to Texas to face charges stemming from the theft of nearly $108,000 from bank where he worked.

The FBI arrested Pedro Godinez after he voluntarily returned to San Antonio on a flight from Mexico.

Godinez faces theft charges related to a Bank of America branch in Lakeway, near Austin, investigators said.

Investigators say surveillance video showed Godinez walking into the vault and removing a cash packet that had $80,000 worth of $100 bills.

Nearly $28,000 turned up missing from the defendant's cash drawer.

Godinez disappeared on Jan. 29, 2009.

He was arrested Tuesday at San Antonio International Airport.

On Wednesday a judge released Godinez to the custody of his mother.

Godinez didn't immediately comment.
