WACO (July 24, 2014) A former secretary at Lakewood Christian Church, in Waco, was named in an indictment Wednesday in connection with the theft of more than $100,000 from the church.

Jonell Eason was named in an indictment charging theft of more than $100,000 but less than $200,000.

Eason was arrested in March after an independent review by a Waco auditing firm revealed that $118,010.95 was missing from coffers at the church, Assistant District Attorney Mark Parker said Thursday.

After the audit, Eason admitted to the auditors she had taken the money and made arrangements to pay it back, Parker said.

She stopped making payments after paying back only $5,000, Parker said.

Eason remains free on bond.
