FORT HOOD (December 14, 2012)--Fort Hood police officers early Friday shot and killed a man who fired shots at them from inside a vehicle parked at Kouma Lake.
A news release issued Friday afternoon by III Corps and Fort Hood public affairs office said Fort Hood Directorate of Emergency Services patrol officers were sent at 3:20 a.m. Friday to investigate a suspicious vehicle parked near Kouma Lake.
As officers approached the vehicle at least one gunshot was fired from inside.
The officers returned fire and fatally wounded the occupant.
Efforts were made to revive the man, but they were unsuccessful, Fort Hood said.
Bell County Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Subsequent investigation revealed the man was a 30-year-old Fort Hood soldier who was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division.
The victim's name is being withheld until notification of his next of kin.
Potvin ordered an autopsy, which the military will handle.
He said he didn’t know how many times the soldier was shot.
