COPPERAS COVE (July 5, 2012)--A Fourth of July fight at a Copperas Cove bar left three men injured and sent another to jail.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit released by a Coryell County justice of the peace, Damon Brook Morgan was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after the three men were beaten with a pool cue.
Coryell County Justice of the Peace Bill Price set Morgan's bond at $8,000.
Morgan later was released from custody on his own recognizance.
The affidavit says Copperas Cove police were sent at around 1 a.m. Wednesday to Dave's Ice House on East U.S. Highway 190, where one officer spotted a man running from the bar.
The officer stopped the man and asked why he was running.
The man, later identified as Morgan, replied that his friend was inside and was involved in a fight, the affidavit said.
Officers determined that Morgan got into an argument in the bar that escalated into an assault in which three men were struck with a pool cue.
Michael James Sadler was knocked unconscious by a blow from the cue and Michael Ray Johnson was struck in the head, the affidavit said.
A witness, Timothy Lee Salzman, was struck twice with the cue and his head was slammed into a pool table.
Morgan ran from the bar after the attack, the affidavit said, where officers spotted and stopped him.
