Freight Train Strikes, Kills Texas A&M Student

COLLEGE STATION (November 5, 2012)--Texas A&M University student Garrett Cole Luce, 19, has been struck and killed by a freight train.

Investigators say Luce, of College Station, was struck shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Union Pacific spokeswoman Raquel Espinoza said the train’s engineers saw something on the tracks and blew the whistle.

Espinoza said the crew didn't realize a person was on the tracks until the train got closer.

An autopsy was ordered.

KBTX-TV in Bryan reported that Luce was at the Northgate District with friends prior to the accident.

The station reported it’s not yet known whether alcohol was involved in the fatality.
