WACO (May 27, 2014) The Gander Mountain outdoor retail chain confirmed Tuesday that it will build a 52,000-square-foot store that’s set to open this fall at the intersection of South Valley Mills Drive and Interstate 35 in Waco on the site of the old University High School, which was razed earlier this year.
The store will be the chain’s 19th in Texas.
“Gander Mountain is already a well-known and trusted name in Texas among those who love the outdoors, and who enjoy great traditions like hunting, fishing, hiking, boating and camping,” said David Pratt, Gander Mountain’s President and CEO.
“We are thrilled to bring a new Gander Mountain store to Waco, and give our friends in Texas more opportunities to experience our top-quality gear and knowledgeable service at great prices.”
Waco Mayor Malcolm Duncan said the store should draw customers from throughout Central Texas.
“The location will serve as a regional draw as well as an appealing place for interstate travelers to stop,” he said.
Gander Mountain has a total of almost 130 stores in 24 states.
A 42,000-square-foot Cabela’s Outpost store opened in October 2013 in the Central Texas Marketplace.
