Texas Gas Line Explosion Injures 4 Utility Workers

MCKINNEY (August 28, 2012)--Four workers were slightly hurt Tuesday in a natural gas pipeline explosion and fire at a North Texas construction site.

The six contract workers were doing upgrades Tuesday morning in McKinney when a track hoe struck the pipeline, Jennifer Ryan with Atmos Energy said.

The excavation was part of a system improvement project, she said.

Ryan said the workers were taken to a McKinney hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The line was closed after the accident and the residual gas burned off.

The fire was out by midday Tuesday.

Ryan said Atmos will assess the damage, make plans to repair the pipeline and restore gas to about 1,000 customers that lost service during the outage.
