WACO (February 25, 2013)- A three-month old chihuahua named "Oscar" is recovering this week, after being thrown from a moving vehicle near a busy highway last Friday.

A good Samaritan witnessed Oscar being thrown out of the car, stopped, and rescued the dog from an access road near Highway 6.

Covered in asphalt with a laceration on the back of his head, Oscar was then taken to Fuzzy Friends in Waco where he has stayed since Friday.

Shelter Director Lois Reasoner has been tending to the dog since he arrived.

"There's just so many dogs like this who get thrown away everyday," Reasoner said.

"It boggles my mind that people could be so cruel, I try not to think about it. Instead, I'm like 'OK lets fix this.'"

The vehicle Oscar was thrown from sped off. It's make and model are currently unknown.

Yet, after experiencing a traumatic situation, Oscar is doing well. He is drinking water and is eating normally.

Oscar's story has become popular on Fuzzy Friends' Facebook page. Reasoner thinks that's a great start to finding him a permanent home.

"For us it's a challenge to turn this animal around and give him a better life," Reasoner said.

"It's what we're here for."
