SAN ANTONIO (January 5, 2014) A man has been arrested on a warrant charging murder in connection with the death of graduate student Lauren Bump, 24, whose body was discovered on New Year’s Eve in a park in San Antonio.
Christian Ivan Bautista, 29, was ordered held in lieu of $200,000 bond.
Two people walking in the park found Bump’s body at around 5:45 p.m. on New Year’s Eve on a paved trail in O. P. Schnabel Park, a police report says.
Her family lives a few miles from the park.
Investigators think Bump was exercising or just walking, San Antonio police Chief William McManus said.
Bautista was arrested after officers responded to a report of a suspicious person in the same park.
Bump, 24, attended Harding University in Searcy, Ark.
She was scheduled to graduate in May from the physician assistant program at the private liberal arts school, which is affiliated with the Churches of Christ.
She received an undergraduate degree from McMurry University in Abilene.
