Grand Jury Clears Former Local Police Officer In Man’s Shooting Death

BELTON (February 28, 2013)—A Bell County Grand Jury Wednesday cleared a former Killeen police officer of any wrongdoing in a fatal shooting last year outside a Killeen residence.

The grand jury took no action against former Officer Anthony Maskunas, a 20-year veteran of the Killeen police force, in connection with the shooting death of Seleucus Pollock, 34, who died at about 5:15 p.m. Feb. 28, 2012 during a domestic disturbance in the 2200 block of Granex Drive.

The grand jury found, based upon reports from the medical examiner who did an autopsy on Pollock, that Pollock shot himself at precisely the same time Maskunas shot him.

Bell County First Assistant District Attorney Murff Bledsoe said the grand jury determined there was no clear evidence that Maskunas could be held responsible for Pollock’s death and refused to return an indictment against the former officer.

Police reports on the incident at the time said Pollock pulled out a handgun shortly after officers arrived in response to a report of a domestic disturbance.

Pollock threatened one of the officers with a handgun and both he and the officer fired, police said.

Pollock was struck twice in the head almost simultaneously, police said, but the first round was self-inflicted, police said.

The officer fired the second round, police said.

Neighbors who live close by said two children live in the house and police confirmed they were inside the home at the time of the shooting.
