MEXIA (February 28, 2013)--A gravel truck driver died Thursday morning in a one-vehicle crash along U.S. Highway 84 just west of Mexia.

The Department of Public Safety identified the driver late Thursday afternoon as Bobby Joe Threet, 72.

The eastbound 18-wheeler veered off the highway at around 8 a.m. Thursday and struck a tree on the shoulder of the road, a Department of Public Safety trooper at the scene said

The trooper said Threet may have experienced a medical problem before the accident happened.

The crash scene was at the intersection of U.S. 84 and Farm-to-Market Road 2705, about 6 miles west of Mexia.

Traffic along U.S. 84 was moving normally because the truck was some distance off the highway.

Threet was alone in the truck, the trooper said.
