HOUSTON (April 18, 2014) A security guard was shot to death early Friday at a Houston condominium complex and police were searching for a man who fled after being denied entry.
Police say the shooting happened near a small security structure at an entrance to the gated complex.
The guard was taken to a Houston hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The guard, who was in his first week of work at the complex, was identified as Rene Almeida, 51.
His gun was missing.
Witnesses reported that they saw a man minutes earlier trying to visit someone at the complex, but who was not allowed to enter.
The man left, police say, and the guard was shot minutes later.
