GROESBECK (October 16, 2012)--A man from Grand Prairie pleaded guilty Tuesday afternoon in Limestone County to charges stemming from a brutal double murder that happened on Sept. 11, 2011, just outside Mart and was sentenced to two 60-year prison terms.

Judge Patrick H. Simmons sentenced Charles Griffith, 39, to serve concurrent 60-year terms after Griffith pleaded guilty to murder in the September 2011 deaths of Jeffrey Summers, 42 and Pam Lykins, 56, whose bodies were found early in the morning on Sept. 11, 2011 on Limestone County Road 318, about a tenth of a mile from the intersection with Ranch Road 342 just outside of Mart.

Griffith originally was charged with capital murder but agreed to the two 60-year terms in exchange for his guilty plea to murder, assistant Limestone County Attorney Brodie Brooks said.

Brooks said Griffith’s wife, Katherine Diane Griffith, pleaded guilty two weeks ago to aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon finding for stealing Summers’ truck and was sentenced to serve 30 years.

Both originally were indicted for capital murder in November of 2011 in the stabbing deaths of the Mart couple killed in what authorities described as a brutal frenzy.

Autopsy results showed that Summers died of sharp force injuries to the torso" and that Lykins was also stabbed to death.

"This was a very gruesome crime scene," Limestone County Sheriff Dennis Wilson said at the time.

"It was a very brutal murder."

Griffith admitted to investigators he stabbed the couple to death in a bloody frenzy, but he didn't reveal a motive, Wilson said.

Wilson said Griffith led investigators to a set of keys to a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was stolen after the murders.

Wilson said the evidence indicates Griffith, Summers and Lykins were "old, long-time acquaintances" who were last seen together on the night of Sept. 10 at the drag races in Prairie Hill.
