DALLAS (April 2, 2014) A dive team has recovered a gun from Lake Tawakoni that authorities say was used in the slaying of a Kaufman County prosecutor in 2013, according to a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to speak publicly on the case.

The official said the firearm used to kill Assistant Kaufman County District Attorney Mark Hasse last year was retrieved March 5 by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Hasse, 57, was shot repeatedly on the morning of Jan. 31, 2013 just after he stepped from his car to walk to the Kaufman County Courthouse in Kaufman.

Two months later, on March 30, 2013, Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife Cynthia were found shot to death in their home.

Former Kaufman County Justice of the Peace Eric Williams and his wife, Kim, are charged with capital murder in the three deaths.
