Gusty Winds, Rain, Severe Storms, Wildfires All Possible; Watches Issued

(January 29, 2013)—A wind advisory and a severe thunderstorm watch were in effect and scattered thunderstorms are possible Tuesday along a cold front that’s pushing into the region.

Damaging winds will be the main threat from storms, particularly east of Interstate 35, forecasters said.

Strong west winds that develop behind the front will boost the wildfire threat across the western half of the region.

The severe thunderstorm watch, effective until 5 p.m. includes Bosque, Coryell Hamilton, Hill, Lampasas, McLennan and Mills Counties.

The wind advisory is in effect through 8 p.m. along and west of a line from Gainesville to Fort Worth to Temple and includes Mills, Hamilton, Bosque, Hill, Lampasas, Coryell, Bell and McLennan Counties in Central Texas.

Mills and Hamilton Counties are also under a red flag warning through Tuesday evening.

The best chance of showers and thunderstorms should be in the early afternoon hours as temperatures rise into the lower 80s.

The front will drop temperatures into the lower 40s overnight and highs Wednesday will be in the upper 50s.

Wednesday night, the temperature will drop into the lower 30s and Thursday morning wind chill readings as low as 16 are possible.
