Head-On Collision Leaves Five Dead

LOS FRESNOS (July 1, 2013)--Five people are dead after a head-on collision in South Texas, including a child and a teenager.

The crash happened at around 10:30 a.m. Sunday near Los Fresnos north of Brownsville, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

DPS spokesman Sgt. Johnny Hernandez told the Brownsville Herald that the driver of a Toyota Rav4 appears to have veered into the path of an oncoming Toyota Corolla, causing a head-on crash.

Four people were dead at the scene and a fifth person died en route to a hospital.

The driver of the Rav4 was in critical condition at a San Antonio hospital.

The names of the victims were not released pending notification of next of kin.
