Head-On Crash On Texas Highway Leaves Four Dead

JACKSONVILLE (March 17, 2013)--Four people were killed when the car in which they were riding slammed head-on into another vehicle and an 18-wheeler while on the wrong side of an East Texas highway.

The crash happened Saturday morning on U.S. 79, a little more than 5 miles east of Jacksonville.

Cherokee County Constable Eddie Lee said the vehicle in which the four were riding was on the wrong side of the road when it sideswiped a sport utility vehicle and slammed head-on into the truck.

No other injuries were reported.

The names of the victims weren’t immediately released.

Department of Public Safety Trooper Jean Dark said it's not yet clear why the car was on the wrong side of the two-lane highway.
