PADUCAH (October 7, 2013)—Helicopter pilot Joshua Fitts, 34, of West Hurricane, Utah died in a crash after the tail rotor hit pulley equipment while he was trying to connect to a power line in West Texas.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says the helicopter crashed Sunday afternoon in a field in rural Cottle County near Paducah.
Fitts was dead at the scene.
Sr. Trooper Chris Ray said the helicopter was hovering as Fitts attempted to connect to the line when the tail rotor clipped a pulley wheel.
Further details weren't immediately available on the purpose of the flight.
Ray said the weather was clear at the time of the accident.
