AMARILLO (June 25, 2013)--A 47-year-old man from Austria died after falling into a deep ravine near a trail in Palo Duro Canyon,
Randall County sheriff's office spokesman Danny Alexander said Tuesday.
The man was found dead Monday evening after he was missing for several hours, Alexander said.
The man was hiking with a friend when he left to take a photograph in the early afternoon.
Alexander says the man suffered traumatic injuries in the fall into the ravine.
Alexander says several authorities launched a search for the man after he was reported missing.
After searchers spotted the man from a helicopter, firefighters rappelled down the canyon wall to recover the body.
