WACO (January 30, 2012)—A homeless Waco-area man was jailed Monday after Bellmead police arrested him on warrants charging indecency with a child by contact.

Hugh Orlando Pope, 45, was held Monday in the McLennan County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $130,000, charged with two counts of indecency with a child by contact, burglary of an habitation and evading arrest.

Waco Police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said police arrested Pope on Friday after detaining him on another issue and then learning he was named in the warrants.

The 12-year-old victim was assaulted in October 2011 at a residence in South Waco, Swanton said.

The arrest affidavit says the child made an outcry to her mother, who then reported the incidents to police.

The arrest warrants were issued in December, Swanton said.
