Homeowner Shoots At Intruder, Lawmen Mount Search For Suspect

CHINA SPRING (August 31, 2012)—A homeowner confronted a burglary Friday morning at a residence in China Spring and was able to fire at least one shot at the suspect before he ran away.

McLennan County deputies were sent just before 11 a.m. to a residence in the 2000 block of Meandering Way where a homeowner reported he had opened fire on a man who was trying to break into the home.

Chief Deputy Randy Plemons could not say if the burglar was hit by the gunfire.

Deputies had mounted a search for the suspect Friday afternoon.

The homeowner was not harmed in the incident.

A neighbor said Friday afternoon he had seen several sheriff’s deputies cars at the home earlier in the day and deputies had been scouring the neighborhood all afternoon.

The homeowner told deputies he had been is-nside the house when a man tried to kick in his front door.

The victim had a handgun nearby, which he grabbed and began to fire.

The burglar turned and ran from the scene.

Deputies were looking for a black man, 6-feet tall, wearing white shorts and a white shirt.

He was last seen driving northbound on Meandering Way in a white 2-door Chevrolet believed to be a late 1980s model.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the McLennan County Sheriff's Office at 750-5095.
