WACO (September 2, 2014) A skilled horsewoman was killed Sunday night when she was run over by a bolting horse at a barrel racing event at Extraco Events Center in Waco.
Jeanine McMinn, 62, of Magnolia, was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center after the freak accident, but doctors there weren't able to save her.
Witnesses to the accident said a horse was being led through a pen when it was somehow spooked, bolted from its lead and trampled McMinn.
The woman's daughter later rode in an event in tribute to her mother.
Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said police have classified the incident as an accident.
The Sunday night event was part of the 25th Annual American Novice Horse Association Shoot Out, an annual competition for barrel racers and riders who participate in pole bending.
McMinn's services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at Magnolia Funeral Home, in Magnolia, with visitation scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
