WACO (June 18 ,2014) A California man who was working at the desk in his room at a local hotel escaped injury when a bullet from a gun fired from a neighboring hotel smashed through the window Tuesday night.

The bullet, fired from a Glock handgun, penetrated the top right portion of the window, passed through a picture hanging on the wall, and struck the shower stall in the bathroom of the room in which a man from Rim Forest, Calif. was staying, Woodway Assistant Police Chief Robert Smith said.

Officers found the round under the edge of the trash can in the bathroom.

They traced the shot to a room in the neighboring Extended Stay America Hotel, Smith said.

Investigators determined that the shot was fired accidentally, but officers arrested Christopher Whitley, 40, of Leesburg, Ga., who was charged with deadly conduct in connection with the incident.

He was in the McLennan County Jail Wednesday in lieu of $3,000 bond.
