BELTON (February 13, 2014) A house fire Thursday morning in Belton left an elderly woman and her dog without a home.

Firefighters were sent at around 8:30 a.m. Thursday to a house in the 400 block of East Street after a caller reported that smoke was coming from the house.

When the first units arrived they reported smoke coming from the roof of the single-story structure.

The woman and her dog were able to escape without getting hurt, but the manufactured home was a total loss, Belton fire Chief Francisco Corona said.

The victim has relatives in the Belton area who provided her and her dog with a place to stay.

The local chapter of the American Red Cross also has offered assistance.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Corona said.

Five units and 10 firefighters responded to the scene, and it took them about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control, Corona said.
