Rusty Garrett here with the weekend outlook: Saturday, rain stays with us, but should taper off by Sunday, the drier of the two days.
TYLER (May 24, 2014) Authorities were investigating Saturday after the grim discovery of human remains rolled up inside a carpet that was dumped and burned on a rural road off Interstate 20 north of Tyler.
A vehicle that was later found burning Friday in a nearby wooded area likely belonged to the victim, Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith said.
The Toyota FJ Cruiser belongs to a man in his 50s from the Fort Worth area, but authorities did not release his name.
Confirming the victim's identity will take time because only about 5 percent of the body was found in the carpet.
The remains will be sent for DNA testing.
