WACO (August 10, 2014) Socorro Camacho Marquez, 62, was in the McLennan County Jail Sunday charged with driving while intoxicated after the pickup truck he was driving veered into a parking lot in North Waco, hit the front of one church, and then smashed through the wall of a second, coming to rest inside the building.

Officers responded to the accident just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the 1500 block of Maple Avenue.

They determined the driver of the pickup was following another vehicle too closely and lost control of the truck when he swerved to avoid the other car as it turned onto Maple from North 15th Street, police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said Sunday.

The pickup veered into the parking lot, struck the front of the Victory in Praise Worship Center and then crashed into the Christian Tabernacle Holiness Church.

No one was injured.

Marquez was checked out before he was booked into jail, Swanton said.

Police notified the owners of the buildings and utility service to both churches was shut off because of major structural damage, Swanton said.
