KILLEEN (August 16, 2014) A Killeen police officer was hospitalized for a brief period Saturday after being hurt during a pursuit.
According to Killeen police, the officer attempted to stop a silver Nissan in the area of Elms Rd. and Ft. Hood St. at around 5:00 a.m. Saturday for a traffic violation.
The driver of the Nissan did not stop, and a chase began.
The suspect stopped in the area of Palmtree and Coral Bay in Killeen and when the officer got out of his patrol car, the suspect took off again, hitting the officer with the car.
Killeen police report the officer fired shots and the suspect then ran off on foot.
A K-9 unit was able to locate the suspect hiding in an air conditioning unit nearby at around 6:11 a.m.
The suspect was transported to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound.
He was later airlifted to Baylor Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple, where he was last listed in stable condition.
The suspects name is not being released until formal charges are filed.
The officer was treated and released from Baylor Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple.
He has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
The officers name was not immediately made available.
The incident remains under investigation.
