BELTON (November 22, 2013) Enduring a cold rain on a windy day, about 90 employees of Aspen Air, Inc., in Belton, were standing outside the company's office Friday, saying they'd been laid off without pay.
The company owners could not be reached for comment, but a telephone call to the company's Belton office produced a recorded message that said after 18 years in business the owners had decided to retire and the Belton business was closed.
The message also referred customers to two other businesses.
At the company's office in Killeen the telephone line was reported to be out of service.
When a call was placed to the Georgetown office it was answered by an answering service that took a message, but could provide no information about the closing other than that the Belton office was no longer operating.
That operator read a short statement that said the company closed for business on Nov. 15.
Last week when News 10 spoke with company officials about the closing a spokesman said the decision to shut down had not been finalized.
Employees standing outside the Belton office at 2710 Digby Road, on Friday morning said they had gone there to get their final paychecks, but said no one was in the office.
A website shows the owner of the business to be Gordon Turnow, but that could not be otherwise confirmed and Turnow could not be reached for comment on Friday.
