MCGREGOR (August 19, 2014) Water was restored to the system in McGregor just before noon but a boil order remained in place.
The boil order would remain in effect for at least 24 hours and the city said it would notify customers when the order is lifted.
Most water customers in the city were without water Tuesday morning after a major water line leak overnight forced officials to shut the entire system down.
McGregor City Manager Kevin Evans said a major line leak at 10th and Monroe forced the decision to shut the system down after workers were unable to place a cap on the line.
"That's an unusual place for a leak and it's even more unusual that we couldn't cap it," Evans said.
The entire city, save for a portion of users at the old Hercules plant and at SpaceX was without water Tuesday morning, Evans said.
City staff repaired the leak Tuesday morning, Evans said.
